Linklaters has recruited Paris capital markets partner Bertrand Senechal from Shearman & Sterling, as the magic circle firm moves to restock its practice in the French capital following the loss of a team to White & Case earlier this year.

Senechal – who will start at the magic circle firm on 2 September – has been a partner at Shearman since 2005 and is highly rated for equity capital markets work in France.

He is is a member of the Paris and New York Bars, and has acted on many of the major capital markets transactions in Paris in recent years. Major roles he has taken have included advising Danone on a €3bn (£2.6bn) rights issue in 2009 and the placing banks on a €800m funding deal for Eurotunnel in 2008.

Linklaters Paris managing partner Paul Lignieres said: "Bertrand is one of the best French lawyers in capital markets. He is a natural fit with our five capital markets partners and is a superb addition to the team."

The hire comes after Linklaters saw a four-partner capital markets team depart for White & Case earlier this year. Partners Cenzi Gargaro, Philippe Herbelin and Severin Robillard and consultant Gilles Endreo have now joined the US firm's base in the French capital. Linklaters associate Thomas Le Vert followed, with all five joining White & Case as partners.

Linklaters' capital markets team in Paris now has six partners working with two counsel and a team of around 30 associates.
