Clifford Chance (CC), Herbert Smith Freehills, White & Case and Mishcon de Reya have become the latest firms to confirm their trainee retention figures for autumn 2013.

CC has offered 51 of its 60 newly qualified (NQ) trainees a role at the firm. Of those, 48 accepted, resulting in a retention rate of 80%. The figure is broadly in the line with the 82% of trainees the magic circle firm kept on in the spring when 54 out of 66 NQs took up a role at the firm.

Meanwhile, HSF has posted an 88% retention rate, after 30 qualifying trainees accepted a role from an intake of 34. The figure is up on this year's spring intake when the firm kept on 24 trainees out of 32, resulting in a retention rate of 75%.

At Mishcons, six of seven NQ have been offered a job at the firm, equating to a retention rate of 86%. This is significantly higher than last year's autumn intake, when the firm held on to just half of its trainees, offering positions to nine out of 18.

Elsewhere, US firm White & Case has announced that it will retain 79% of its London trainees qualifying in September, having offered positions to 11 of 14 trainees.

Justin Benson, partner and training principal at White & Case said: "Our aim is to attract young lawyers of the highest calibre and support their continued development to fulfil their career potential. The training programme is an important part of White & Case's organic growth strategy.

"There is a growing demand for English law expertise and the training programme enables us to strengthen our English law capabilities across our global network."

Other firms to have confirmed their September 2013 retention rates include Freshfields and BLP, who have both kept on more than 80% of qualifying lawyers. Freshfields offered roles to 40 of its 48 trainees, with 39 accepting, while BLP's September retention rate is up from the 64% it posted this spring. The firm has offered roles to 18 of 21 NQs, with all accepting, giving it a retention rate of 86%.
