Firm reports rapid growth for Eversheds Consulting venture as revenues rise 100%

Eversheds' management consultancy arm has set out plans to double its turnover in the next two years after seeing a 100% year-on-year increase over the last financial year.

Eversheds Consulting, which was launched in September 2010, has posted turnover of £5.6m for the last financial year – double the amount taken in by the business during 2011-12. The firm's stated aim is to increase income to £10m by 2015.

The consulting division advises in-house teams on a range of issues including efficiency, record management, compliance and strategic reviews.

Clients to have made use of the advisory service so far include Allied Irish Bank, Disney, Qatar Foundation and Lloyds Banking Group, with several projects currently in progress. Other clients the business has worked with to date include electronics company Tyco and chemicals firm DuPont.

The increase in work has seen the core consulting team grow from 12 members to 20 in two years, with the firm currently in the process of recruiting a further two members specialising in risk and compliance.

Eversheds Consulting head Graham Richardson (pictured) said: "In the fast-changing world of the in-house lawyer, they find that a large part of their workload, indeed the majority, is not about technical legal work but rather areas such as strategy, risk and compliance, demonstrating value, law firm panel management and IT system development.

"Eversheds Consulting can assist with these challenges. In a highly competitive and largely flat legal market, we see it as offering great potential for new revenue."

The consulting division also includes freelance lawyer service Eversheds Agile, which is made up of a pool of around 45 lawyers who can be drawn on to help supplement in-house teams. The venture was made permanent in March last year after a successful seven-month pilot.

The Agile team recently took on four lawyers who had been made redundant following Eversheds' recent restructuring, while several freelance lawyers have gone on to secure permanent in-house roles after impressing the clients they were working with.

"This is great news as it gives us a real Eversheds fan within the client legal team," Richardson added.
