Berwin Leighton Paisner's (BLP) flexible working business Lawyers on Demand (LoD) has posted turnover of £9m for the 2012-13 financial year, following strong growth since its 2007 launch.

The venture – which now boasts a roster of 120 lawyers – has seen a steady increase in turnover since launch, from £1m in 2008-09 to more than £5m in 2010-11, before reaching £7m last year.

The 28.5% growth during 2012-13 has taken revenues up to £9m. LoD's turnover is part of BLP's overall revenue – which has dropped 5% from £246m last year to £233m in 2012-13.

LOD works with clients such as Google, Porsche and Channel 4 and offers options for flexible models of working. The service provides locum lawyers on an ad hoc basis to BLP as well as in-house teams at banks and corporates including Orange, BSkyB, and Cisco.

Earlier this month BLP announced that Financial Times general counsel Tim Bratton will be joining LoD in September as its first practice development director. Bratton will work alongside co-founders Simon Harper and Jonathan Brenner in the newly created role to grow LoD's client and lawyer relationships, while working on its strategy and client development plan with in-house teams and law firms.

In June, the business added a 'pay-as-you-go' service, which will give clients access to legal help remotely to manage surges in workload.

The new operation, known as LoD On Call, will operate as a sister service to BLP's existing LoD service which is being rebranded as LoD On Site. LoD On Site operates on a secondment-style basis, with selected lawyers or teams of lawyers working in-house and with law firms for a designated number of days per week. In contrast LoD On Call lawyers will work via the internet, email or telephone to help clients on short-term projects.

BLP managing partner Neville Eisenberg added: "LoD is prized at BLP, it's the best example of that business in the UK market. They are ambitious and keen to grow."
