White & Case has strengthened its London private equity capability with the hire of a partner from US rival Kirkland & Ellis.

Ross Allardice (pictured), who spent nine years at Kirkland where he made partner in October 2010, joined White & Case yesterday (5 August) with his arrival bringing the US firm's City partner count to 67.

He has experience in all areas of corporate law, in particular the structuring of private equity deals and leveraged buyouts in UK and Europe. In 2011 he was part of a Kirkland team which advised private equity firms Bain Capital and Hellman & Friedman on the $3.4bn (£2.2bn) purchase of European alarm and security company Securitas Direct.

White & Case has been looking to grow its City private equity practice, and Allardice joins a team which has enjoyed a busy first six months of the year, having advised on 102 deals with an aggregate value of $95bn (£62bn).

White & Case's global M&A practice leader John Reiss said: "Ross is joining us as part of our strategy to strengthen our market-leading global M&A practice and continue the expansion of our European private equity practice."

The firm has made a number of hires of late, including the June addition of partner Julian Chung to its Hong Kong corporate team from Ropes & Gray. In the same month, White & Case took a seven-strong team led by capital markets partner Paola Leocani from Allen & Overy's Milan office.
