Mishcon de Reya and Field Fisher Waterhouse advised on the BBC's sale of the international rights for popular childrens' TV shows Teletubbies and In the Night Garden to DHX Media.

Mishcon advised DHX, a Canadian media production company, on its acquisition of Ragdoll Worldwide from the BBC and a group including Anne Wood, the creator of the Teletubbies, for £17.4 million. The Mishcon team was led by head of corporate, Nick Davis.

As part of the deal DHX will receive eight further series, including The Adventures of Abney & Teal, BAFTA-winning Dipdap and Brum, in addition to 365 episodes of Teletubbies, 52 episodes of Teletubbies Everywhere and 100 episodes of In the Night Garden.

Meanwhile Field Fisher acted for Ragdoll and BBC Worldwide – the co-owners of Ragdoll Worldwide, an international sales and franchise venture – led by head of corporate Andrew Blankfield.

Nick Davis said: "We are extremely delighted to have advised our longstanding client DHX Media, on this landmark transaction."

Earlier this year the BBC sold travel publisher Lonely Planet to US media company NC2 Media for £51.5m – a loss of nearly £80m compared with when it originally acquired the company in 2007. The deal came after a review by the BBC of its commercial assets, with the company deciding to focus on its BBC brands and the global promotion of its output.

Reed Smith, Ashurst and Olswang acted for the BBC while Tennessee-headquartered local firm Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis advised NC2 along with Minter Ellison.
