Hogan Lovells has appointed Jackie Newstead  as its new global head of real estate, replacing current co-heads Bruce Parmley and Michael Stancombe.

London-based Newstead will take up the role with effect from 1 January 2014 as Stancombe is set to retire at the end of the year after 35 years with the firm. Parmley will remain with Hogan Lovells acting as head of real estate in the Americas, based in Washington.

Newstead joined the firm in 1997 and has held the role of London real estate group manager since 2007. Real estate partner Michael Gallimore will now take over as group manager of the London practice.

Newstead is chair of the City of London Law Society Land Law subcommittee and was former chair of the Asset Skills Property Sector Board – the sector skills council responsible for the property industry.

Stancombe was appointed as joint head of real estate in 2009 alongside Bob Kidby who soon after retired from the firm to join property developer Welbeck Land. Stancombe's appointment coincided with a refocus of the firm's City real estate practice along sector and work-group.

Andrew Skipper, Global Co-Head of Hogan Lovells' corporate practice, said: "Michael has had a long and distinguished career with Hogan Lovells and we wish him all the very best for the future. I'd like to thank both Bruce and Michael for all they have done in developing our global real estate practice since the combination in 2010. We are delighted that Jackie will be taking on the role of head of real estate and look forward to seeing her build on the relationships she has already established."
