4 Pump Court Chambers has hired former Clifford Chance lawyer Katherine Surgeoner to join its management team in a newly created senior role.

In her new role Surgeoner will work alongside Pump Court's chief executive Carolyn McCombe and its senior clerks to help develop chambers' increasingly international work load.

Surgeoner, who will start at Pump Court on 4 November, was previously a senior associate in the litigation and arbitration group at CC and was based in London and Hong Kong. She was also the firm's World Economic Forum (WEF) strategic coordinator.

Nigel Tozzi QC, joint head of Chambers said: "We are thrilled that Katherine has agreed to join us. We are always looking at ways to ensure that we provide a first class service and at a time when the legal marketplace is undergoing significant changes we believe Katherine will be a very valuable addition to our team."

Meanwhile, Devereux Chambers has elected Timothy Brennan QC (pictured) as its new head to succeed Ingrid Simler QC. He will take up the position on 21 October after Simler steps down following her appointment to the High Court bench.

Brennan took silk in 2001 and practises public and commercial litigation in the High Court. His main areas of work include tax and other commercial litigation, judicial review and other public law litigation, employment and discrimination.

Brennan previously held the Attorney-General's appointment as Junior Counsel to the Inland Revenue (Common Law) and is authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Queen's Bench Division, the Administrative Court and the Chancery Division. He sits as a Recorder in the Crown Court.
