Eversheds launches second Iraqi base in Erbil
Eversheds has expanded its presence in Iraq with an office opening in Kurdistan. The firm merged with Middle Eastern law consortium KSLG in 2011, giving the firm an office in Baghdad through an association with local outfit Sanad Law Group.

Eversheds has expanded its presence in Iraq with an office opening in Kurdistan.
The firm merged with Middle Eastern law consortium KSLG in 2011, giving the firm an office in Baghdad through an association with local outfit Sanad Law Group.
The Erbil office opening gives the firm a second base in Iraq. It will be run by Eversheds' Iraq managing partner Tawfiq Tabbaa and two local lawyers relocating from the Baghdad practice.
Tabba said: "Our operations in this region have seen exponential growth over the last 12 months with many of our major global multinational clients looking to move into this emerging market.
"Opening an office in Erbil, will allow us to deliver high quality services on the ground to the large number of major global companies looking to invest in the region."
Eversheds set up shop in Doha and Abu Dhabi before gaining offices in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Dubai through its merger with KSLG.
The Iraq practice is run by Middle East managing partner Nasser Ali Khasawneh and comprises eight lawyers including Tabbaa.
Khasawneh said: "Eversheds is the only global law firm to have offices in both Baghdad and Erbil; a real testament to the firm's investment in the Middle East.
"As a client centred law firm, we are keen to be able to service the demands of our clients wherever in the world they want to do business."
Earlier this month the firm outlined a new Africa-focused strategy, which includes plans to open offices in Tunisia, Morocco, Ghana and Kenya in coming months, as well as a move back to South Africa.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
