Field Fisher Waterhouse has won a prize mandate advising the European arm of Nintendo on the launch of an online retail store for UK consumers.

The firm worked with the Japanese entertainment company's commercial and legal teams on the venture, which stocks products including games consoles such as the Wii U, Wii Mini and Nintendo 3DS.

Field Fisher fielded a team led by technology senior associate David Lewis and overseen by Palo Alto-based data privacy partner Phil Lee, who holds the client relationship. They were supported by e-payments partner Paul Graham and commercial IP partner David Bond.

The firm advised on all commercial, IP and regulatory matters, including negotiating deals with key suppliers for technology development and maintenance, warehousing and logistics and customer support, as well as negotiating deals with payment processing providers and advising on data privacy issues and consumer protection regulation.

Lee said: "The real challenge was that it was a cradle to the grave deal to work on. There were several components to this project that required co-ordinated specialist advice across many disciplines. Like any other deal there were time pressures to get everything up and running, but I think we did ourselves proud."

Hogan Lovells is Nintendo's standby competition adviser.

Field Fisher launched its representative office in Palo Alto last year, with Lee relocating from London to head up the practice.

Technology, media and communications clients at the firm include social media giant Facebook, search engine Google, online streaming service Netflix and gaming company Zynga.
