King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin's real estate partner David Ryland has left the firm after 25 years in the partnership to join US outfit Paul Hastings.
Ryland joined legacy SJ Berwin in 1981 and was made up as partner in 1988. His practice focuses on commercial real estate with particular emphasis on UK and European property funds, property finance, hotel transactions and development.
Ryland, who will join the US firm's City real estate team, has represented a number of high-profile clients in recent years, including Shroders, Starwood Capital, Invesco and the Hilton Group.
Paul Hastings London office chair Ronan O'Sullivan said: "Our partners in London have been involved in deals with David and have followed his career with admiration and respect.
"Attracting partners of David's outstanding reputation and experience is an important part of our strategy in London and we look forward to David working with all of our leading clients."
The move is the latest in a wave of partner departures from legacy SJ Berwin, ahead of last week's merger with King & Wood Mallesons.
Last month, Mayer Brown hired real estate partner Pat Jones after ten years at the City firm.
Also lasy month, legacy SJ Berwin corporate partner Ed Harris left the firm to join Hogan Lovells. Harris had been a partner at SJB since 2007 and had a client roster that included Terra Firma, Pantheon Ventures Investindustrial, EQT, Actavis and Constellation Software Inc.
SJ Berwin's merger with the Asia-Pacific giant, which went live last Friday (1 November) has created a $1bn (£657m) firm, with the SJ Berwin name set to disappear after a transitional period.
