CMS has become the latest firm to move into the fast-growing Turkish market after launching an office in Istanbul.
CMS Cameron McKenna corporate partner and international head John Fitzpatrick will lead the office, alongisde CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz commercial local partner Doene Yalcin.
Yalcin had previously headed the Turkish desk for CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz, the Austrian arm of the CMS network. She will now relocate to Istanbul.
The office will be full service, but with a particular focus is on project finance, oil and gas, M&A and capital markets.
CMS executive chairman Cornelius Brandi said: "Turkey is a very important country for us and we have been involved there on behalf of our clients for over 15 years. Establishing an office in Istanbul allows us more effectively to serve our clients' needs in Turkey and to develop business with Turkish clients."
Fitzpatrick, who has recently been working at the firm's Romanian office, said: "Turkey is of increasing interest to international companies and investors. CMS lawyers have been working extensively on Turkey-related matters for many years.
"Over time, we have developed a deep understanding of how to structure and complete transactions relating to Turkey, with a particular focus on cross border and international transactions."
CMS also has Turkish desks in Germany and the Netherlands. It discussed adding a Turkish member firm to its network back in 2011 during its annual partner meeting, but any plans to do so have now been abandoned.
A host of firms have established a presence in the jurisdiction in recent years. Earlier this year Pinsent Masons formed a joint venture agreement with local lawyers to set up shop in Istanbul, while Allen & Overy last November secured an association with Istanbul firm Gedik & Eraksoy after initially launching a UK law practice in 2011.
