The top-earning partner at Macfarlanes took home 17% more in 2012-13 than in the previous year, according to the firm's limited liability partnership (LLP) accounts.

The accounts, filed with Companies House, show that Macfarlanes' highest earner received just under £1.4m, compared with £1.2m in 2011-12.

The accounts also confirmed that Macfarlanes' revenue was up 11.6% on the previous year, growing from £102.3m to £114.2m.

Operating profit increased from £50.4m in 2011-12 to £56.4m.

During the year lawyers from the firm recorded more than 1,300 pro bono hours, less than half those recorded in 2011-12 (3,000 hours) and also down on 2010-11′s figure. 

The firm also increased its fee-earner headcount by 14% with the number of professional staff increasing from 220 in 2012 to 250 in 2013. Total staff costs have risen by 13% from £29.8m to £33.7m.

The accounts also show capital introduced by members during the year totaled £1.5m, compared with £1.2m the previous year, which is understood to be the result of capital from new partners who have joined in the past financial year.

Macfarlanes declined to comment.
