Mayer Brown JSM has made up five lawyers in Asia as part of 22-strong global promotions round this year.
The US firm, which currently has eight offices in the region, promoted four solicitors in Hong Kong and one in Beijing working across disputes, corporate and bankruptcy, effective from 1 January 2014.
In Hong Kong, appointments included Marina Fung, Mei Ling Lew, Thomas Pugh and Chester Wong.
Fung and Lew both specialise in litigation and dispute resolution, with Fung focusing on insurance-related disputes related to large-scale disasters and Lew working on construction and real estate, with contentious work including construction delays and planning issues.
Pugh is a lawyer in the bankruptcy and insolvency department advising insolvency practitioners, creditors and debtors with respect to cross-border insolvencies and restructurings, whilst Wong focuses mainly on equity offerings such as IPOs, bonds and secondary listings, in addition to private equity and M&A work.
Zhen Han, based in Beijing, is also a corporate lawyer with experience working on inbound and outbound mining projects, and regularly advising multinational clients on mergers and acquisitions and on their joint venture projects in China.
In recent years, she has also developed a practice advising clients on regulatory issues concerning financial services and institutions in the country.
Chairman Paul Theiss said those promoted to partner have demonstrated "world-class excellence" and would would play important roles at the firm.
The promotions exceed those made by Mayer Brown in Asia last year, which included three in Hong Kong; namely IP lawyer Alan Chiu, banking and finance expert Ashley Wong and real estate lawyer Wilson Wong.
Other non-US appointments include one in London, that of commercial litigation and dispute resolution specialist Susan Rosser; two in Paris, namely corporate and securities lawyers Pascal Druhen-Charnaux and Alexandre Dejardin; and one in Sau Paulo, corporate solicitor Milton Pinatti.
The remaining promotions cover the firm's offices in Chicago, New York, Charlotte, Houston Los Angeles and Washington DC.
In a bid to grow its Asia offering, Mayer Brown JSM has also made three lateral partner hires in the last two months.
In September it recruited corporate partner Betty Tam in Shanghai from Herbert Smith Freehills, whilst in October it hired Hogan Lovells' partner Gabriela Kennedy to lead its intellectual property and TMT practice across Asia from Hong Kong.
This week, the firm has also announced it is boosting its real estate practice with the addition of Ricky Yiu from Baker & McKenzie.
Yiu, who has more than 20 years of experience in his field, focuses on matters in Hong Kong, the PRC and Macau, including property acquisitions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and finance projects.
He will join the firm at the end of March next year.
