Mishcon de Reya has restructured its tax practice to bring together expertise from across the firm.

Mishcon's new tax practice will bring together its previously separate real estate tax and corporate tax groups, alongside its well-established private tax & wealth planning practice.

Andrew Goldstone (pictured) head of private tax and wealth planning said: "Tax used to be seen as a support service in the firm – we had pockets of expertise, the largest of which was in private tax, but overall much fewer numbers. Our clients needs are constantly changing, with business and personal concerns increasingly overlapping, so we have recruited heavily and brought all the services together in a single group."

As part of the strategy, the firm has also boosted its client offering with the hire of King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin tax partner John Skoulding. Charlie Sosna has also joined as a solicitor from boutique firm Berkeley Law, which specialises in private client wealth.

Skoulding has experience in a wide range of corporate, private equity and individual taxation. He focuses on UK and international M&A, management buy-outs and corporate restructurings and has worked across sectors including betting and gaming, fashion, retail, IP and financial services.

Skoulding's move is the latest in a wave of legacy SJ Berwin partner exits following a number of departures in the lead up to last week's merger with King & Wood Mallesons. Earlier this month real estate partner David Ryland left the firm after 25 years in the partnership. In October, Mayer Brown hired real estate partner Pat Jones and corporate partner Ed Harris left the City firm to join Hogan Lovells.

Mishcon is due to announce further additions to its new tax practice – which now employs 13 lawyers – in the New Year. These will include a Russian tax advisor to support the firm's growing Russian client base. In September the firm hired Adam Rose, head of Berwin Leighton Paisner's information law unit.
