DAC Beachcroft has merged with two-partner Colombian insurance firm De La Torre & Monroy Abogados Asociados.

The new office which began trading yesterday (1 December) under the name DAC Beachcroft Colombia, will work with international insurers and reinsurers, advising on claims as well as arbitration, corporate, commercial and regulatory issues. DAC will also provide full service legal support for international investors in Colombia and local clients.

De la Torre & Monroy is based in Bogota and was founded 20 years ago by Camila de la Torre and Gabriela Monroy, who will continue as regional senior partners for the new office.

The two firms already share a number of clients in the Colombian insurance market and the international reinsurance market, particularly in London, New York and Spain.

DAC already has a number of offices in Latin America, including a base in Brazil opened in 2003, a Chilie office opened last year after merging with Santiago-based firms SegurosLex and Amunategui y Cia and in Brazil through associations with Wongtschowski & Zanotta and JBO Advocacia.

Last month DAC posted a 7% rise in billing at the year's halfway point, with revenue totaling £90m. Management at the firm has targeted turnover of £200m for the 2013/2014 financial year, issuing a £10m cash call to its partners.

The firm also recently acquired five partners and 54 members of staff from Morgan Cole's personal injury business in Bristol.
