Field Fisher Waterhouse has hired Mayer Brown corporate and M&A partner Mark Walker in its City office.

Walker, who joined Field Fisher this week, has a practice focusing on corporate finance and venture capital investments. He advises clients on public and private company transactions, often with a cross-border element.

He is a dual-qualified UK and German lawyer and was based in Mayer Brown's Frankfurt office for several years before returning to the City.

While at Mayer Brown, major mandates included leading a team that advised Unilever Ventures – the European venture capital arm of Unilever – on the disposal of its stake in Rahu Catalytics to global chemicals and specialty materials providers OM Group.

In 2010, he also headed a team representing Stefan Allesch-Taylor and Paul Hammett on the acquisition of a majority stake in NordFinanz, a private bank based in Bremen and Munich.

"This is all part of our plan to build corporate, and we're looking to talented people to help with the growth," said Field Fisher's corporate group head Andrew Blankfield, speaking to Legal Week.

"I think Mark's a really great hire for us. The fit is twofold: one, he does a lot of work with strategic investors, which is something we have identified as an important opportunity for work across the sectors we focus on.

"Secondly, his practice is UK and German-based, which overlaps with our European focus, and we expect he'll spend a reasonable amount of time working with clients in Germany."

Blankfield said the corporate group would continue to look for partner level recruits in 2014, adding that the department has "a platform that gives potential recruits real autonomy in their practice".
