Reed Smith has appointed three of its City lawyers to partner and one to counsel, in the firm's 2014 global promotions round.
In total, 26 lawyers were promoted to partner and 18 to counsel across 14 offices, bringing the total number of partners at the firm to 747.
Partner promotions in London came in the firm's financial industry, corporate and shipping departments, with associate Alexander Heaton promoted to counsel in the real estate team.
Ranajoy Basu – a former Allen & Overy associate who is qualified in both England and India – is among those to have made partner.
Basu joined Reed Smith's financial industry group from Berwin Leighton Paisner in 2012. He has a broad finance practice, having advised clients on structured finance, securitisation, derivatives and capital markets matters, including a role for African Bank in relation to its $2bn Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) Programme.
The other two partner promotions were for corporate lawyer Charles Jurd, who has been at Reed Smith since joining as a trainee in 2003, and shipping lawyer Sally-Ann Underhill, who deals with all forms of charterparty, bill of lading and ship management disputes and arbitration matters.
Last year the firm elected real estate lawyer Danielle Martin and disputes lawyer Ben Summerfield to the partnership, in a 22-strong promotion round.
"These lawyers are exceptionally well-qualified to provide the high-quality leadership and legal services which are the hallmarks of the firm," said the firm's global head of legal personnel Colleen Davies.
"We congratulate them on their accomplishments and look forward to their continued success at the firm."
