Eversheds has grown its African referral network with the addition of 10 independent firms.

The Eversheds African Law Institute (EALI) network, which launched last October with 14 members, now numbers 33 firms.

The 10 new EALI firms are: Eva Caldeira Marques in Cape Verde, Cabinet Thomas Dingamgoto in Chad, Martinet & Martinet in Djibouti, Sarwat A Shahid Law Firm in Egypt, Fikadu Law Office in Ethopia, Bikalou Avocats in Gabon, Liberian Legal Service International in Liberia, SCP Yankouri in Niger, SCP Akakpo in Togo and Dube and Manikai & Hwacha in Zimbabwe.

The firms have joined 23 existing members, including Eversheds' outposts in Mauritius, South Africa and Tunisia, which launched after the firm opened four offices across Africa last December through tie-ups with South African firm Mahons Attorneys and Tunisia's El Heni.

The network is designed to allow participating law firms to access training, secondment and knowledge sharing programmes while promoting commercial opportunities.

Projects partner Boris Martor, who oversees the network with support from client services director Julie Stobbart, said: "We have seen phenomenal growth since launching our Pan-Africa strategy late last year. Not only are we rapidly achieving our objectives of establishing hubs in key African regions, but we have also received an overwhelming response to EALI.

"We believe that EALI is a unique model and the largest legal network of its kind in Africa and we look forward to continue building on the success that we have seen since its launch."

Other international firms with widespread African alliance networks include Dentons, DLA Piper and Baker & McKenzie.
