White & Case has won a first time place on mid-market buy-out house HgCapital's legal panel following the hire of Linklaters' client relationship partner Richard Youle last year.

The US firm has taken a place on the revamped panel alongside Weil Gotshal & Manges and Linklaters, both of which regularly advised the private equity firm in the past.

It is understood that Shearman & Sterling also pitched for a spot on the panel but was unsuccessful.

Last month Linklaters took the lead role for HgCapital on its disposal of Manx Telecom, marking the firm's first deal for the client since Youle left.

Linklaters' relationship with HgCapital goes back to 2001, with Youle leading on a string of deals including the buyouts of JLA, Iris Software Group, e-conomic, TeamSystem and Nair&Co.

Weil meanwhile has advised the client on deals including its $660m sale of talent management business SHL in 2012 and its sale of Pulse Staffing and acquisition of ATC Group in 2010.

Since Youle's departure private equity partner Alex Woodward has taken over as Linklaters' Hg client relationship partner, alongside corporate partner Iain Wagstaff and Adam Freeman on the debt side.

Corporate partner Jonathan Wood holds the client relationship for Weil.

HgCapital's general counsel Andrew Jessop joined from Clifford Chance's private equity team in 2012. Previously the role was held by former Weil lawyer Alison Hampton, who joined the firm in 2008 and now advises on governance, compliance and risk management.
