Greenberg Traurig has elevated 33 lawyers to shareholder in a reduced global promotions round.
The promotions include that of antitrust and regulatory specialist in Lisa Navarro in London, taking the shareholder (the firm's equivalent of partner) headcount to 18 in the City, where the firm operates as Greenberg Traurig Maher.
Navarro, who joined the US firm in 2009 from Watson Farley & Williams alongside London competition chief Stephen Tupper, brings the number of internal shareholder promotions in the City office to five since it was launched, also in 2009. Her practice focuses particularly on the water sector, with clients including British Water and Southern Water.
"We have a strong regulation and competition focus, particularly in the water sector," said Tupper. "It's a flagship sector for us."
Globally, the promotion round for the US firm was down compared with 2013, when 43 lawyers were made shareholders. In addition to the 33 new shareholders this time round, there were 11 promotions to counsel.
Greenberg's litigation department took the lion's share of new shareholders, with 15 promotions, while the corporate team was bolstered by nine shareholders and a further four joined in the real estate group.
Including the counsel promotions, 24 of the firm's 36 offices were represented, while 34 per cent of those promoted were women. Miami took in the most new shareholders with five, while four were added to the headcount in Chicago.
Richard Rosenbaum, Greenberg's chief executive, said: "We are proud of our newest class of shareholders and of counsel and of their leadership-level dedication to clients, as well as to the growth of the firm and to their colleagues. They are the future of this profession and we are fortunate they have chosen Greenberg Traurig as their platform for success."
