Allen & Overy (A&O) has promoted 26 lawyers to its counsel ranks this year, including four in London.
The magic circle firm's counsel promotions, which take effect today (1 May), span 13 offices. London and Luxembourg have added four counsel each, with three lawyers promoted in Casablanca and Milan.
The London quartet includes two new professional support lawyers – Michael Green and Helen Powell – who specialise in banking and corporate respectively. The group is rounded off by tax counsel Tim Harrop and international capital markets counsel Thomas Wilson.
The remainder of the promotions are based at the firm's offices in Hong Kong, Perth, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Rome and New York.
The new counsel are spread across the firm's corporate, banking, employment, disputes, tax and international capital markets groups. The round is up on last year, when the firm made up 24 lawyers as counsel, but 21% down on the previous year when the firm promoted 33.
Managing partner Wim Dejonghe (pictured) said: "The new counsel come from a variety of backgrounds, each with their own unique set of abilities.
"I'd like to congratulate all new counsel on this achievement; it is an excellent platform from which they will continue to further their careers."
Earlier this year the firm posted a reduced partnership promotions round after taking in 16 new partners across its global network, marking a 16% decrease on the previous year.
