Watson Farley & Williams has promoted its largest batch of new partners for over a decade, while RPC has made up three lawyers in its latest promotions round.
Watson Farley has named 13 new partners, the same number as its last two rounds of promotions combined. Last year the firm promoted four lawyers, while in 2012 the firm gained nine new partners. In 2011 it made up six.
The appointments are spread across eight of the firm's 13 offices. Geographically, the London and Hamburg offices took the lion's share of the new partners with three each. The New York office took in two, while one each was made up at the firm's Rome, Milan, Athens, Bangkok and Paris offices.
The new partners are based across six practice areas. The firm's corporate group took the bulk of promotions with four appointments, while three lawyers joined the energy practice.
The finance and maritime teams added two partners each, while the real estate and dispute resolution groups respectively made up one. The appointments bring the firm's partner count to 133.
Meanwhile, RPC's City office has gained two new partners with the additions of insurance and reinsurance disputes lawyer Richard Breavington and competition lawyer Lambros Kilaniotis. The remaining new partner – insurance disputes lawyer Ben Goodier – has joined the partnership in Bristol.
The promotions round is the firm's largest since 2010, when the firm also made up three lawyers. Last year one lawyer joined the partnership, while the firm promoted two partners in each of its 2012 and 2011 rounds.
RPC managing partner Jonathan Watmough (pictured) said: "When we appoint new partners at RPC we're welcoming them as genuine owners of the business, with a real stake in our future success. That's the reality of an all equity partnership. So, naturally, the bar is set that much higher.
"Richard, Ben and Lambros have all consistently displayed that rare blend of technical excellence, commercial acuity, and commitment to client service that we expect from our partners and I'm really looking forward to working with them more closely."
