Macfarlanes former senior partner Robert Sutton has joined City investment banking and broking group Numis as a non-executive board director.

Sutton will chair the group's remuneration committee and will join both the audit & risk committee and nominations committee.

Sutton joined Macfarlanes in 1979 and left in 2013. He served as senior partner from 1999 to 2008, before handing over to current senior partner Charles Martin.

At the firm, Sutton specialised in company and commercial law, particularly in the areas of corporate finance, securities law, takeover bids and M&A.

Numis has also appointed Gerald Corbett as non-executive chairman of the board following the retirement of Sir David Arculus.

Commenting on the changes in composition of the board, Oliver Hemsley, Numis chief executive said: "Robert's broad knowledge of the financial services industry combined with his extensive experience as a commercial lawyer will enable him to make a significant contribution to the continued development of Numis.

"I am equally delighted that Gerald has agreed to take over the chairmanship of the board having served as independent non-executive director since May 2009. On behalf of the board I would like to thank Sir David for his significant and valued contribution to Numis over the past 5 years and we wish him well for the future".
