Linklaters has offered its associates pay rises of up to 5%, cementing its place as the highest-paying magic circle firm for junior lawyers.

The firm is raising the rate for lawyers with three years post-qualification experience (PQE) by £4,500, with associates receiving up to £93,500, up 5% from the £89,000 salary on offer last year. Lawyers with two years PQE will receive up to £82,000, which is also up by almost 5% on last year's pay of £78,250.

Pay for one year PQE and newly-qualified lawyers will go up by £1,000 to £70,500 and £65,000 respectively. Trainee salaries are also up by £1,000 from last year to £40,000.

The new pay rates came into effect on 1 May.

Yesterday (8 May) Allen & Overy announced its associate salary bands with senior associates, which are eligible for promotion from 4.5 years' post qualification experience (PQE) onwards, set to take home a minimum of £105,000, up from £100,000.

The firm announced salary hikes for lawyers below senior associate level last November, with 5.4% increases for those with three years' PQE and a 3.5% rise for two-year PQEs.

Last week Slaughter and May revealed it was raising rates for newly-qualified lawyers, which have grown by 3.2% to £65,000. Lawyers with one, two and three years' PQE received 0.7%, 1.3% and 1.7% rises respectively.
