A redundancy consultation at DWF could leave up to 37 staff redundant, following a restructuring of the firm's fraud and motor team in its Liverpool office.

The consultation will affect fee earners and secretarial staff and comes in the wake of a wave of job losses at the firm.

DWF cut 19 jobs from its business services in April this year, while 12 roles were lost across its Scottish bases last year. A further 38 support staff jobs were made redundant following the firm's take-over of Cobbetts in March 2013.

The firm has attributed the restructuring to a decline in the number motor fraud litigation instructions.

Managing Partner, Andrew Leaitherland said: "We've also been able to improve our efficiency through centralising activities and investment in IT meaning that less admin support is required."

DWF is one of a number of firms making cutbacks to support staff with Field Fisher Waterhouse (now known as Field Fisher), Stephenson Harwood and Trowers & Hamlins all announcing redundancies this year.

A representative of DWF said that while no date has been set for the consultation, any staff affected would receive support from the firm.
