Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has appointed London based partner Philip Carrington as its new head of disputes in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Carrington will be responsible for the growth of the firm's dispute practice in the region, supported by newly appointed client development partner for disputes, Damian Grave, who recently re-located from Australia to London.

In the role, Carrington will also join the HSF global disputes management team led by Justin D'Agostino, who was appointed as the practice's head in May this year.

The move is the latest of a number of changes to the firm's global disputes management, following former head of global disputes Sonya Leydecker's appointment as joint chief executive alongside Mark Rigotti in May.

Separately, HSF has appointed international arbitration partner Isabelle Michou as head of the Paris disputes group.

Carrington will remain at the firm's London office and work alongside regional dispute heads Geoff McClellan in Australia, Mark Shillito in the UK and US and Peter Godwin in Asia.

D'Agostino commented: "We have identified that the opportunities arising in EMEA and between our Australian capability and its interaction with the rest of the network are enormous."

"With Philip's, Isabelle's and Damian's appointments and the new strong disputes management team in place, I am confident we will achieve our objectives and capitalise on the opportunities that exist."
