Mishcon de Reya has launched an independent private client advisory business with offshore wealth planning business Opus Private.

The joint venture, called "Mayfair Private", has been created to offer "intelligent and discreet professional solutions" to wealthy individuals, families and their private offices, grouping together legal, trust and family office professionals as a single point of access.

The service, which will be available across offices in London, Guernsey and Dubai, focuses on family governance, family office advisory services, wealth protection, philanthropic structuring, sourcing and protecting lifestyle assets and bespoke concierge services.

It will not provide investment, asset, treasury or portfolio management services.

Mishcon de Reya managing partner Kevin Gold (pictured) said: "Years of experience advising clients on their business and personal matters has helped us understand that families really are the most complex organisations in the world. We have a reputation of fiercely guarding our clients' interests through the specialist legal advice we provide but we have become increasingly aware of a gap in the wider service offering for them.

"There was a pressing need for the family and private offce-related services – that traditionally fall outside of the remit of a law firm – to be professionalised. Consolidating the specialist private experience of Mishcon de Reya and Opus Private to create Mayfair Private enables us to fulfil this need."

The news comes as Mishcons is seeking to move out of its headquarters at Red Lion Square to Africa House at 70 Kingsway. If the firm chooses to let the entire 120,000 sq ft space, the move would relocate partners and fee-earners, spread across four sites in Holborn, to one office.

Rent at Africa House is quoted at £59.50 per sq ft, according to property websites. Mishcons has a break clause on its Summit House headquarters in March 2017.
