Since joining Baker Hughes as director of legal and compliance for the Middle East in November 2012, Tamer Nassar has overseen a frenetic period of change within the multinational giant's regional legal operations, which provide support to 6,000 employees working in 16 countries.

This has seen the significant expansion of a diverse legal and compliance team containing personnel of US, British, Lebanese, Egyptian, Indian and Russian origin, and which has been bolstered by a number of secondees.

Nassar has also developed web-based systems to manage the administration of the team and generate data to demonstrate the value of its work, as well as setting up a three-strong law firm panel that secured Baker Hughes considerable discounts in return for volume work. He has also embarked on an ambitious plan to streamline the organisation's corporate structure in the Middle East, with an ultimate view to reducing costs and increasing profits.
