Davis Polk makes first City promotion since 2009
Davis Polk & Wardwell has made up a London associate to partner in its annual promotions round for the first time in five years.

Davis Polk & Wardwell has promoted a London associate to partner for the first time in five years.
City corporate lawyer Reuven Young (pictured) is one of three lawyers making the grade this promotion round, with fellow New York-based corporate associates Sophia Hudson and Byron Rooney also joining the partnership.
The promotions came into effect on Tuesday (1 July). Young's appointment is the first in the City since the elite Manhattan firm promoted corporate associate John Meade in 2009. In the past two years its promotions rounds were all based at the firm's New York operation.
Young's practice mainly focuses on advising clients on corporate finance deals.
He has landed roles on deals including acting for: Marks & Spencer on its debut bond offering; the underwriters on British-Australian mining company Rio Tinto's $15.2bn rights offering; the underwriters on gold miner AngloGold Ashanti's $1.7bn rights offering, and the underwriters on investment-grade offerings by London-headquartered mining business Anglo American and electronics company Philips.
The appointment marks the latest in a series of moves the firm has made to expand its City arm. The firm has been building its English law offering after launching last November, led by corporate partner Simon Witty, who also spearheaded the launch of its English law practice when he joined the firm in 2012 from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
Since Witty's hire, Herbert Smith corporate veteran Will Pearce, Freshfields tax partner Jonathan Cooklin and Ashurst finance partner Nick Benham have all joined the office.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
