Arnold & Porter has launched its first City banking regulatory practice with the  hire of a Katten Muchin Rosenman financial services partner in the London office.

Tim Aron is set to join from the US firm, where he represents a wide range of clients within the financial sector including banks, fund managers and insurers. He previously worked at the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the forerunner to City watchdog the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Arnold & Porter's London office chief Tim Frazer said: "Tim's service at the FSA brings to the table the kind of practical experience that will hugely benefit our clients in the UK."

At the FSA, Aron advised its markets division, banking division, and enforcement and financial crimes division. His broad regulatory experience also includes acting as legal counsel to the UK Listing Authority and the UK Competition Commission.

He will work at his new firm in its financial services group, which advises US and international institutions on regulatory, litigation, legislative and transactional matters.

Arnold & Porter Chairman, Thomas H. Milch, added: "We expect his considerable financial services regulation experience will be of value to our domestic and foreign institutional clients, many of whom are now facing increased UK and European regulatory activity."

The US firm launched an office in Houston earlier this year, its ninth office worldwide.
