Clyde & Co has sealed the hire of Eversheds Middle East regional chairman Christopher Jobson in a boost for its Abu Dhabi office.

Jobson trained at Eversheds in Newcastle before joining Clydes' Hong Kong office in 1990. He relocated to its Dubai office four years later, and rejoined Eversheds as partner in 1995.

Jobson moved to Doha in 2004 to set up Eversheds' office in the Qatari capital. He became managing partner of the Middle East group when he was tasked with overseeing the launch of its Abu Dhabi offering four years later.

During his time as regional managing partner he spearheaded the firm's merger with Middle Eastern law consortium KSLG in 2011, handing the firm offices in Dubai, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

He became chairman of the Middle East operation in 2012, with Dubai-based dispute resolution partner Nasser Ali Khasawneh replacing him as regional managing partner.

Ali Khasawneh said: ""We had been discussing a possible return to the UK for Chris, and other opportunities in the region, but he has decided that the time is right for him to take on a new challenge.

"We wish him all the best with that and thank him for many years of excellent service to the firm in the UK, Doha and Abu Dhabi."

Jobson's clients include energy companies, financial institutions, protection and indemnity insurance clubs, ship owners and charterers and logistics organisations.

Clydes Middle East head of dispute resolution Chris Mills said: "Chris has a long history with Clyde & Co, having spent the early part of his career working in our Dubai and Hong Kong offices.

His well-respected practice and strategic outlook strongly complements Clyde & Co's regional strategy and direction, a key part of which involves our dispute resolution practice."

His hire brings Clydes' local office partner numbers to six and the regional disputes partner count to 13.

Earlier this year Eversheds created new management roles in the Middle East as part of a firmwide strategy to align partners in the firm's four practice groups (HR, litigation, real estate and corporate and commercial) with its 11 sector groups. Appointments included the newly created role of regional litigation head, which was taken up by United Arab Emirates based disputes partner Nayiri Boghossian.
