Dentons has formed a tie-up with Ghanaian firm JLD & MB Legal Consultancy, replacing its arrangement with previous local ally Bentsi-Enchill Letsa & Ankomah.

The non-exclusive relationship between Bentsi-Enchill and Dentons spanned 12 years, after the Ghana-based firm formed ties with legacy Denton Wilde Sapte in 2002.

JLD & MD comprises five partners and around 10 additional lawyers. Dentons Africa executive committee chair Thomas Laryea said the firm's new relationship engages clients including the Ghanaian government and foreign investors.

Firms with links to former associate firm Bentsi-Enchill include Clifford Chance (CC), with Bentsi-Enchill among firms participating in CC's recently-launched training scheme for lawyers at African firms.

Bentsi-Enchill, which has seven partners, is the Ghanaian member firm of law firm networks Lex Mundi and Lex Africa, according to their websites.

In April, Dentons opened in Cape Town by formalising its relationship with associate firm KapdiTwala. The tie-up meant the end of the firm's relationship with another South African associate firm, Glyn Marais, which it had teamed up with in 2009.

At the time Dentons also outlined plans to open an additional office in Francophone Africa, but did not disclose the targeted jurisdiction.
