Clifford Chance (CC) has appointed new heads of its global finance and capital markets practices, replacing Mark Campbell and David Dunnigan respectively, as part of managing partner Matthew Layton's overhaul of the firm's management.

CC has also confirmed the line-up of its recently revamped management committee, which was trimmed down from 16 seats to 12.

London finance partner Rob Lee is set to replace Campbell as global head of finance, while City capital markets partner Adrian Cartwright will succeed Dunnigan.

Both Campbell and Dunnigan have been in their roles since 2002 and were approaching the end of their elected terms.

Germany managing partner Andreas Dietzel is also stepping down and will be replaced by Düsseldorf partner Peter Dieners.

The magic circle firm has said that Campbell, Dunnigan and Dietzel will "continue to play an active role on client relationships and helping to develop the firm's practice in new market segments".

Meanwhile the firm has brought in a new continental Europe managing partner role as part of its revamped executive leadership group. The new position will be taken up by Paris managing partner Yves Wehrli, who stood against Layton in last year's managing partner election. Wehrli, who was a member of the now defunct Management Committee, will continue to manage the Paris office.

Global real estate chief Alfonso Benavides, London managing partner David Bickerton and global tax and pensions head Chris Davies, all of whom were on the previous committee, will not have seats on the trimmed down Executive Leadership Group.

CC said the trio, along with Middle East managing partner Robin Abraham, would work closely with the leadership group on firm strategy.

All new appointments, which span four years, will take effect from the start of September.

Layton said: "My thanks go to all those partners who sat on the management committee and to Mark, David and Andreas for their contribution to the leadership and management of their respective practices. These partners have all been passionate advocates for the firm and ensured that we continued to build and develop our reputation, even when markets were at their most challenging.

"At the heart of our agenda is an understanding of the significant shifts taking place in our clients' worlds and in our own sector. Our energies will be focused on ensuring that we interpret what those shifts mean for our strategy, for the development of our client offer and for how we operate."
