Parabis Group has launched a redundancy consultation which could lead to the closure of its Bristol and Colchester offices.

The consultation, which launched today (4 August), involves 41 lawyers and support staff in total, with all 23 jobs in Bristol and 18 in Colchester at risk.

Of those at risk of redundancy, 32 are fee-earners, 18 of which are in Bristol and 14 in Colchester. The consultation is expected to close in the next few weeks.

Explaining the consultation, Parabis said that its network of offices had "mushroomed" as a result of a spate of mergers in recent years. These include subsidiary Plexus Law's merger with fellow defendant insurance firm Greenwoods Solicitors last May.

In addition to the reviews in Bristol and Colchester, Parabis is set to cut back the number of sites it operates from in London – moving from four different offices to three. These moves have not resulted in job losses.

Group commercial director Tim Roberts (pictured) said: "It is not unusual for a business such as ours which has inherited offices on multiple sites and at several locations as a result of mergers to rationalise property holdings and concentrate teams where there is the highest workload and greatest client demand.

"Naturally, this affects some of our people very directly and their welfare is important to us. We are consulting fully and will be discussing options and opportunities. Where roles may be lost as part of this process we will help those affected all we can with their next move."

The firm did not disclose details of the redundancy packages on offer.

Parabis also has offices in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Southampton, Croydon, Milton Keynes, Evesham, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
