Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has retained 82% of its August 2014 qualifying trainees.

Of the 45 strong August cohort, 38 were given offers with the firm, of which 37 accepted places.

The firm retained 80% of its spring 2014 qualifying intake. In September 2013, roles were offered to 40 out of 48 qualifiers, with 39 accepting and a retention rate of 81%.

The size of Freshfields' intake has remained roughly steady from the 46 qualifiers in Spring 2013 qualifiers, its retention rate has dipped slightly from 85% in that round, and from 89% the previous September.

Fellow magic circle firm Linklaters recently posted an improved retention rate for its September-qualifying trainees of 93%, up from 87% in 2013. Allen & OVery and Clifford Chance are yet to release figures for their autumn 2014 qualifiers.

King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin, meanwhile, has also announced its retention rates for September 2014 qualifiers with 73% staying on as NQs with the firm.

Out of 22 trainees qualifying, 18 applied for roles with the firm and 16 of those have been retained.

For spring 2014, the newly merged firm held on to 71% of its 17 trainees.
