Ashurst has raided White & Case and O'Melveny & Myers in a hiring spree aimed at filling perceived gaps in its Asian practice.

The firm has recruited White & Case debt capital markets partner and head of high yield for Asia Anne-Marie Slot, in addition to a three-lawyer team from O'Melveny: restructuring partner Bertie Mehigan; corporate partner Joel Hogarth; and Singapore energy counsel Ratih Ipop Nawangsari.

It has also recruited disputes partner Debby Sulaiman from O'Melveny's former Indonesian affiliate, Tumbuan & Partners.

The moves are part of a push in Asia to bring the firm's offering in the region, in particular its high yield and debt capital markets capability, in line with Europe and the Australia.

On the finance side, it recently hired London-based Linklaters partner Nigel Pridmore to join its Hong Kong office and White & Case banking partner Kate Allchurch in Singapore.

It is also relocating Doos Choi and Chris Tang to Hong Kong from London – bringing the total number of finance partners in Asia to 14, with partner headcount across Asia-Pacific (including Australia) now standing at 39.

O'Melveny has seen a number of departures in Asia this year amid reports of frustrations among some teams within the US firm.

Mehigan and Hogarth were among a group of four who originally joined the firm from White & Case in 2008 and 2009 to launch the Singapore practice, alongside Mark Fairbairn and Huey Yann Thong – who have also since left.

Mehigan will relocate to Hong Kong with Ashurst, and will focus on restructuring and finance work from China and Indonesia. Hogarth will join as a senior legal consultant at the UK firm's associated Indonesian firm Oentoeng Suria & Partners, along with Nawangsari and Sulaiman.
