King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin managing partner Rob Day has stepped down from the top job to be replaced by UK real estate co-head William Boss.
Senior partner Stephen Kon has meanwhile been re-elected to the position. Boss and Kon will hold their respective roles for a three-year term starting next May.
Day was elected as legacy SJ Berwin's managing partner in November 2010. He also acted as stand-in managing partner for a six-month spell in 2009 when his predecessor Ralph Cohen took an extended sabbatical. Day did not stand for re-election and will return to full-time fee-earning.
Kon, who was appointed as senior partner in May 2012, oversaw legacy SJ Berwin's combination with Asia-Pacific giant King & Wood Mallesons, which took effect last November.
Boss (pictured) was made up as a partner in 2005. He joined SJ Berwin in 1997 from legacy Bond Pearce, now known as Bond Dickinson. He has represented clients including Marks & Spencer, The Crown Estate and Battersea Power Station.
Day said: "'It was a difficult decision not to stand for re-election as managing partner, but having spent the last six years in the role I believe I have helped the firm develop both operationally and strategically and that now is the right time to let someone else take the helm with Stephen.
"I am very proud of this firm and everything we have achieved. Our success is attributable to the quality of our people and the deep relationships we enjoy with our clients. I have no doubt William will do an excellent job as managing partner and I will support him in every way possible. I look forward to getting back to the day job full time."
Kon added: "It has been an extremely fulfilling time to work with Rob over the past three years and I fully understand and respect Rob's decision that now is the appropriate time for him to pass the managing partner mantle to William. William has enormous talent, energy, judgement and integrity and I am looking forward to working with him in taking the firm forward in the future."
