Clifford Chance (CC) senior partner Malcolm Sweeting has been reappointed to the leadership role for a second four-year term.

His second term will run from 1 January 2015 after he was re-elected to the position in an uncontested vote which closed yesterday (23 October).

Sweeting, who will lead the firm alongside managing partner Matthew Layton, will also continue to chair CC's seven-strong partnership council.

The magic circle firm also recently revamped its management committee, trimming it down from 16 members to 12.

Sweeting (pictured) said: "I am privileged […] to continue as senior partner, working alongside Matthew and the new executive leadership group as they reinforce our position at the forefront of the global legal market.

"The legal landscape is not immune to change, and it is clear that our clients are increasingly challenging us to innovate and adapt. It is also clear from discussions with our clients, across sectors and from around the globe, that there are fantastic opportunities for CC to support them as they look to achieve their ambitions and navigate this rapidly changing environment."

Sweeting has been a partner at CC since 1990, after he joined the firm in 1983. He was first elected to senior partner in 2010, replacing Stuart Popham. He fended off competition for the role from German M&A and corporate finance partner Daniela Weber-Rey, who has since left for a role as chief governance officer at Deutsche Bank, and City tax partner Jonathan Elman.
