Eversheds' former City tax head Clive Jones and international real estate chief William Naunton have ended up signing for King & Wood Mallesons, ten months after handing in their notices with the intention of setting up their own high-end real estate boutique.

The pair will join KWM in January, along with former Eversheds London senior partner Cornelius Medvei, who returned to fee earning after being replaced in the role in 2009.

Medvei said that the opportunity to "move more swiftly and strongly" into international real estate markets, coupled with KWM's culture and aspirations, made the opportunity to join the firm as opposed to forming their own boutique "irresistible" for the trio.

He added the KWM's focus on international real estate opportunities, with a clear trend towards Asian, Australasian and Middle Eastern investors, "perfectly complements and enhances" what the Eversheds group can offer.

KWM said that the trio would "support the firm's strategy focussing on structured, high-end real estate."

Naunton and Medvei will sit within the firm's real estate team, while Jones will join the tax group, all working on cross-border and cross-departmental projects.

Jones was replaced as Eversheds' City tax chief last Monday (10 November) by veteran Berwin Leighton Paisner partner Cathryn Vanderspar.
