Linklaters former global corporate head Jeremy Parr has retired from the partnership in order to take up the role of general counsel at Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong.

Parr has been senior relationship partner for Jardine for the last five years, after developing ties with the conglomerate – whose interests include HongKong Land, Dairy Farm, Mandarin Oriental, Jardine Motors, and Astra – in the 1990s when he was stationed in Linklaters' Hong Kong office.

Parr was replaced as global corporate practice head by former Asia corporate chief Matthew Middleditch in September, and is set to depart the firm sometime in the spring of 2015.

His intention was to return to full-time fee earning when his term ended, having taken over the role from David Barnes in 2010.

Parr first joined Linklaters as a trainee in 1984 and has been a partner since 1993, working across the firm's London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York offices.

He is best known for his work with clients in the banking sector, acting as senior relationship partner for Lloyds Banking Group. He led the Linklaters team advising the bank on its acquisition of HBOS, its subsequent possible participation in the Government Asset Protection Scheme (GAPS) and a resulting fundraising round.

He served two terms on the International Board, and made the appointment of the firm's first female London corporate head earlier this year.

Linklaters senior partner Rob Elliot described Parr's contribution to the partnership as "tremendous" and gave him the firm's best wishes for an "exciting new opportunity."
