Clifford Chance (CC) is to relocate its global co-head of projects Nicholas Wong from Paris to Singapore next year, as the firm looks to boost its project finance capability in South East Asia.

The magic circle firm, which currently has 61 lawyers and 17 partners in Singapore through its Formal Law Alliance (FLA) with Cavenagh Law, has made several investments in the project finance space recently.

Last year it added Ross Howard in Tokyo and promoted Matt Buchanan in Singapore, while in May it made two partner promotions in Perth. It also does project finance work in Korea and Indonesia.

Wong, who will relocate mid-January currently co-heads the practice from Paris alongside Russell Wells in London.

He has more than 18 years of experience in project financing, energy regulation, developing project structures, joint ventures, PPP and procurement.

He acts for sponsors, banks, export credit agencies, multilateral financial institutions and development banks, and has previously worked for CC in London, Washington and Frankfurt.

There are currently 70 partners and 340 associates in CC's projects group, specialising in advising lenders and sponsors on the commercial and financing aspects of projects in both the energy and infrastructure sectors.

In Asia Pacific, the group is led by eight partners who are supported by finance and energy teams.
