The winning entry in the diversity category is working with 85 universities to provide greater access, opportunities and assistance to students from underrepresented groups.

Aspiring Solicitors (AS) was founded by former Norton Rose Fulbright corporate lawyer Chris White in September 2013. He secured funding for the project from 10 founder members, including Norton Rose, Barclays and LexisNexis. Since then he has added a further 11 affiliate members. All of the member firms are contractually committed to offering students in the network opportunities to gain legal work experience.

The group has also appointed student ambassadors at 84 universities across the UK and is rolling out workshops, presentations and talks at each of these institutions. So far AS has provided 300 opportunities to students from more than 75 universities. This includes putting more than 100 students on formal vacation schemes. Elizabeth Cope, head of recruitment at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, says: "Through our association with AS, I hope that we will start to attract more applications from strong students at those universities who might otherwise not have heard of us, or thought they were not good enough."
