DWF walked away with the hotly contested Law Firm Innovation Award for setting up a crisis response service for clients. Since its launch, the service has signed up 90 clients, generating revenue of around £1m.

The service is designed to help companies prevent and respond to business crises, such as injuries or fatalities at work, dawn raids and product recalls. It includes access to training workshops on crisis management, monthly newsletters, assistance with onsite risk assessments and advice on media management. It also offers clients secure extranets that allow senior executives to communicate with each other and DWF's lawyers during a crisis, and which contains live press and social media feeds and discussion threads.

By reducing email traffic, the portal preserves legal privilege more effectively.
It also facilitates communication with insurers, who are able to view activity
on the extranet.

As part of its programme to develop the product, DWF has teamed up with the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives to offer the service to its members.
