Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson's London office has sealed the hire of private equity partner Daniel Oates from O'Melveny & Myers.

Oates spent just under a year at O'Melveny, having joined its London office as a partner in February last year. Before that he was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, working alongside Fried Frank's new City managing partner and head of private equity in Europe, Graham White, who left Kirkland last year to join his current firm.

Oates joined Kirkland in 2006. He has acted for clients including Accel KKR, Apollo Group, Apax Partners, Avis Budget, Bain Capital, Barclays Capital, Blackstone, Candover and CVC Capital Partners.

White said the hire came amid a push to expand the firm's private equity practice in London and Europe.

He added: "[Oates'] experience, work ethic and commercial sense are what clients seek."

The appointment coincides with the hire of former Goldman Sachs vice president and associate general counsel Mark Lucas, who has rejoined Fried Frank as a partner at its New York M&A and private equity practice.

Lucas previously worked as an associate at Fried Frank from 2004 to 2010. He was in the merchant banking division at Goldman Sachs where he focused on private equity transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and capital raising activities as well as other principal investments.
