Partner-only boutique practice gunnercooke has hired seven partners in an attempt to boost its corporate and commercial divisions.

The firm's recruits include Liz Kelly, group general counsel at Nationwide Building Society; Tim Hamilton, former head of clients and markets at Addleshaw Goddard; and Mike McGrath, one of four founding partners of legacy Pinsents' Manchester office.

Gunnercooke co-founder and former DLA Piper private equity head Darryl Cooke (pictured) said that the firm planned to double in size this year with more partner hires in the pipeline.

The seven recruits take the firm's partner count across its two London offices and Manchester base to 70.

The firm said it was not targeting a specific practice area with the hires, but was looking to build expertise across the firm.

Gunnercooke launched in London in 2012, with the hire of former Clifford Chance (CC) solicitor Sofia Hinkley.

The following year, it launched a litigation practice, bringing in a four partner team including Mike Kenyon, a Hill Dickinson financial crime consultant and former commercial fraud partner at Burton Copeland, and former DLA Piper and Irwin Mitchell partner Sarah Sharpe.

The firm comprises solely of senior lawyers with a minimum 10,000 hours practising, 95% of which have in-house experience.
