Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is set to choose between corporate head David Collins and employment head Lisa Mayhew to succeed long-serving managing partner Neville Eisenberg.
Eisenberg, who has been managing partner at the firm for 16 years, will step down on 30 April this year, after confirming late last year that he would not stand for re-election.
It is understood that a partnership vote to choose between Collins and Mayhew will begin imminently.
Mayhew (pictured) is a specialist in complex employment litigation, and took a lead role for Merrill Lynch in its high-profile sex discrimination and equal pay claim brought by former banker Stephanie Villalba. She is also taking a lead role in BLP's push to ensure that 30% of its partnership is female by the end of 2018.
Collins, meanwhile, is also head of BLP's betting and gaming sector focus group. He took over leadership of the corporate group from John Bennett in 2013, after serving as corporate finance head since 2001, when he also became a member of the firm's strategy group.
It is expected that Eisenberg will take on a new management role at BLP when his term as managing partner ends. Partners have suggested that he may take on the senior partner position from Harold Paisner, whose term also ends this year. Executive partner Robert MacGregor's term is set to end in 2016.
Eisenberg has been managing partner at BLP since the merger between Berwin Leighton and Paisner & Co in 2001, having first taken up the role at legacy Berwin Leighton in 1999. He last ran unopposed for re-election in 2012, when he won a new three-year term.
