Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has continued its lateral hiring spree in New York by bringing in Kirkland & Ellis employment partner Howard Klein.
Klein will join Freshfields on 2 February after seven years as a partner at Kirkland.
He will lead Freshfields' team on all US work related to board governance, executive remuneration and employee disclosure agreements.
Prior to joining Kirkland, Klein worked at now defunct Dewey & LeBoeuf until 2006, before leaving to spend two years at Proskauer Rose.
Adam Siegel, Freshfields US regional managing partner, said: "Adding a first-rate executive compensation and employee benefits practitioner to our U.S. team is another important milestone in further building out our ability to assist both international and domestic clients with their most significant opportunities and challenges."
The latest hire is a move to bolster its offer on corporate transactions by bringing in further employment expertise.
Former Fried Frank senior partner Valerie Ford Jacob joined along with corporate partners Michael Levitt and Paul Tropp in September, on the back of three other major hires.
Last autumn, Mitchell Presser joined from Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz to serve as US M&A head; James Douglas joined from Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom as leveraged finance head; and Peter Lyons joined from Shearman & Sterling as co-head of global public M&A.
Former Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton corporate partner Ash Qureshi was also hired as Freshfields' US capital markets partner in its London base last April.
Speaking to Legal Week in September, global senior partner Will Lawes said the firm planned to grow its transactional team in the US from five to 25 partners.
