Hogan Lovells has hired a three-strong intellectual property (IP) team including two partners from Mayer Brown JSM to join its Hong Kong-based China practice.

IP litigation partner Alan Chiu is joining the firm this month alongside IP partner Eugene Low.

The former head of Mayer Brown JSM's IP/IT practice in Asia, Kenny Wong, is also joining Hogan Lovells as a consultant. Wong headed Mayer Brown JSM's regional practice for 15 years.

Chiu handles contentious and advisory IP work in both Hong Kong and China, while Low advises on a number of areas including gaming laws, technology licensing and disputes, and copyright clearance projects.

Hogan Lovells' global IP practice group leader, Andreas Von Flack, said: "Strategic lateral hires with the pedigree of Alan, Eugene and Kenny ensure that we will continue to lead the field in providing clients with a unique blend of practice depth and industry sector coverage."

The lateral hires come as the firm continues its drive into the region. Last month Hogan Lovells hired the head of Gide Loyrette Nouel's Vietnam office, Samantha Campbell, as part of its continued foray into South East Asia to tap energy and infrastructure work.

Last year the firm took on nine lateral partners in Asia and made its first partner-level appointment in its Vietnam office, with the hire of corporate partner Jeff Olson from Allen & Overy.

Asia and the Middle East made up 7% of the firm's global billings for the 2014 calendar year.
