Barclays Investment Bank's EMEA general counsel Erica Handling will leave the post at the end of this month.
An internal memo to Barclays staff, seen by Legal Week, said that the former Ashurst structured finance chief will leave the bank "to pursue other opportunities".
It is understood that a successor to Handling will be announced in the next few weeks.
Handling is believed to have another job lined up though the bank declined to give details of what it is.
In the memo to staff, Judith Shepherd, Barclays Investment Bank global general counsel for corporate investment, said: "I would like to thank Erica for everything she has achieved at Barclays. She has been a valued member of my leadership team."
Handling left Ashurst for Barclays Capital (BarCap) – Barclays Investment Bank's previous name – in 2010 after 10 years at the firm. She was credited with helping develop the firm's global finance practice, and was part of the team that led the firm's surprise US law launch in February 2009 with the hire of a 10-partner structured finance team from US firm McKee Nelson.
Handling led the legal coverage for Barclays' non-core departments while at the bank, and was a member of Barclays' senior leadership group and investment banking legal executive committees.
Diversity was also high on Handling's agenda at BarCap. She served as co-chair of the investment bank's Women's Initiatives Network and chaired its legal diversity committee.
Handling's exit is the third departure at the Barclays Investment Bank this year.
In January, Shepherd announced she would be stepping down later this year. She is being replaced by Gibson Dunn & Crutcher financial institutions group co-chair Mark Shelton.
In February, Barclays' managing director of litigation and investigations Jonathan Peddie also left the bank.
Also in February, Barclays appointed Kevin McKay as general counsel in its US wealth and investment management division, which is separate from Barclays Investment Bank. He will replace Carlos Pelayo when he starts on 23 March.
Based in New York, McKay will report to Helen Oldfied, the bank's London-based global general counsel.
